Biography

Growing up on the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland in Eumundi (Gubbi Gubbi Country), Malia Stirlings childhood was abundant in art and music. With Australians Eastern Coastline as her backyard, Malia has always been heavily inspired by nature which is reflected in her distinct writing and storytelling style. Her Australian-Folk-Pop sound has stylistically been influenced by Missy Higgins, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac and more.

Capturing attention across Queensland, New South Whales and Victoria, Malia has been travelling across Australia with her music as a soloist and in a duo alongside Josh Maynard, an Australian Folk Rock artist from the Central West NSW. Recently, Malia has shared stages with the likes of Thirsty Merc, Vanessa Amorosi, The Fabulous Capretto’s, John Schumann (RedGum), Shane Howard (Goanna), Kyle Lionhart and more. 

DUO

Central West based artist, Josh Maynard and Sunshine Coast based artist, Malia Stirling have been playing music individually all their lives. Coming together as an Australian Folk Rock Duo they utilise their different backgrounds to accompany one another’s music. Influenced by the likes of Goanna, Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel, Missy Higgins and Redgum; the pair share a passion for homegrown music and create songs focussing on connection to place and oneself. Throughout the years have shared stages with Cold Chisel, Thirsty Merc, Birds Of Tokyo, Darryl Braithwaite, Russell Morris, Jack Jones, Dave Gleeson, Vanessa Amorosi, Shane Howard, John Schumann and more.
